Why you need to migrate to Magento 2

As of June 30th 2020, Magento will no longer be supporting their Magento 1 platform. With over 250,000 sites using Magento and only 11,000 of them running on Magento 2, in the coming months it’s going to be crucial for your business to adjust to this change. When Magento end their support at the end of June, websites running on Magento 1 will still remain on the internet. However, they won’t be releasing any more security patches, which means the continued security of your customers and your business would be at risk.

If you’re still running on Magento 1 and are looking to move over to Magento 2, it isn’t quite as easy as just ‘switching’. The difference between the two frameworks is considerably different and even though there are migration tools, the process isn’t straightforward. When making the change, it involves effectively rebuilding your site on a different framework – so it’s no small task. But don’t worry, our team of experts are here to help.

What’s new in Magento 2?

Magento 1 was released in 2008, so it’s no surprise that it has become outdated and lacking in modern features. Magento 2 has some great upgrades and improvements, such as now the back-end interface is much more user-friendly and the front-end offers a clean mobile-first look. As well as this, there are improved CMS capabilities which are much stronger and easier to use – which allows for better content management.

What are the advantages of Magento 2?

  • Magento 2 has improved security features in comparison to Magento 1
  • With Magento 1 becoming unsupported all new features will only be available on Magento 2
  • A Magento 2 site runs 50% faster than Magento 1 on average
  • Magento 2 checkout is nearly 40% quicker than Magento 1 checkout
  • Magento 2’s capability is double what Magento 1’s was with it being able to take double the orders and page views per hour

How we make our Magento eCommerce websites

In such a competitive online world, it’s never been more important to focus on driving extra traffic to your website, and more importantly, make the most of that traffic. As a Magento web development company, we use a fully comprehensive process that begins with understanding your business and takes us right up to the launch of your site. The attention we give to each stage of your website creation process means you get a high-performing website that looks impressive. The entirety of our process is centred around you and your business, as we see success for you as a success for us.

We think it’s important to take a collaborative approach right from word go, so that we can use your team’s experience, alongside our own, to add creative and technical value at every stage. We will discuss your business aims and objectives so that we can create a website that works towards achieving your goals.

We will conduct a detailed statistical analysis of your existing website using insightful tools such as Google Analytics; which allows us to make informed choices when it comes to planning your new site. We will then begin to map your site in terms of a customer’s journey to conversion, creating a visual sitemap for you to better understand this.

After defining the planning process, we put our fantastic team of creative minds together to design a beautiful unique website. This will begin with a wireframe design, and develop into a full design concept, which is where we can look to create a truly engaging experience for your customers.

Once we have established the design, our developers will take your site from a static visual to a fully-functioning and engaging website. We make sure to use clean, SEO friendly code so that your website is easy to read by search engine crawlers, including Google. We also ensure the site is running as quickly as possible - nobody likes a slow site.

A crucial stage is of course testing; your website is a big investment so we make sure that it's functioning exactly how it should be. This testing process involves checking everything looks great and is functioning correctly across a range of devices, as well as ensuring all content is search-engine ready.

After the exciting launch of your new site, we don't leave you to your own devices - we can provide you with expert hosting and the support you need post-launch to maintain the value of your site. See our hosting and support packages for more information on this.
